Crux Education

About Crux Education

Crux Education logo: a person reading in a relaxed pose inside a hexagon, beside a bold X

Crux Education started from a simple belief: neurodivergent learners aren't broken. Too often, it's the system around them that doesn't fit.

The crux of a problem is its heart. My work is about finding the crux of what's making learning hard, then building practical support that lasts.

The logo tells the same story. The reader is relaxed, because reading should be a pleasure, not a battle. The bold X marks the point where challenges cross. Crux is also the Latin word for cross, a reminder of the values behind this work: equality, dignity and care for every person.

22 years in education

I have taught for 22 years in the UK and Australia, in primary schools, secondary schools and sixth forms. Since 2019 I have led special educational needs provision as a secondary school SENDCO.

I'm a trained specialist dyslexia assessor and a former member of SASC, the SpLD Assessment Standards Committee. In every setting I've worked in, I've seen what genuinely helps neurodivergent learners, and what gets in their way.

Lived experience of ADHD and autism

I'm autistic and I have ADHD. I know executive dysfunction, working memory overload, sensory burnout and the frustration of being misunderstood from the inside.

That experience shapes everything I do. It helps me understand why standard strategies often fail, and what neuroaffirming support looks like in real life: at home, at school and beyond.

The research rabbit hole

Put hyperfocus together with postgraduate study in cognitive psychology, SEN and inclusion, and you get what I call the rabbit hole effect. Every barrier a learner faces becomes a research project. I combine research evidence with classroom practice, then test and refine strategies until they make a real difference.
